City of Los Angeles Glendale-Hyperion Viaduct Complex Improvements

Project Scope

CWE is providing design services to the City of Los Angeles for the Glendale-Hyperion Viaduct Complex Improvement project.  The goal of the project is to seismically retrofit and rehabilitate the existing viaduct complex.  It runs along the historic corridor of Hyperion Avenue and Glendale Boulevard.

CWE is designing an infiltration basin and bioswale.   Water quality is also being evaluated as part of the project scope.  CWE conducted a hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of the various elements of the project.  This included the streets, bridges, 1-5 off-ramp realignment, and the proposed infiltration basin and bioswale.  A concept plan was created and this was backed by plans, specifications, estimates, and permitting support.

Additional design elements included bridge widening and seismic retrofitting.  Paving and grading, storm drain improvements are other key elements in water quality improvements.   Signage and striping, lighting, traffic control are all being revamped to improve wayfinding and safety.
